Dying #Easter eggs from scratch because I didn’t want to go to Target.
This was HUGE fun.
Trying to color brown eggs is always kind of a joke (as a kid, our chickens laid brown eggs and we steeped them forever in the Paas), but the inky richness of blueberry, old quick-pickled beet jar-juice, even older pickled red cabbage jar-juice, turmeric and green food color dye was so full-on stained-hands wow-it’s-working incredible, I am now converted.
The blueberry die (from perfectly freezer burned berries donated by our awesome neighbor) stole the show. The green food color die worked great. The pickled red cabbage jar-juice also shined.
Whatever you use, two or so tablespoons of white vinegar to one-ish cups of colored liquid is key to colorfastness.
I did this to save money (who can go into Target for just one item?) but will do it from now on because it’s just really fun.

DIY complete seed-starting tray with egg cartons: cut off the lid, line lid with foil and nest to have a self-contained drip tray. Mist with a spray bottle to avoid over watering.
This JUST happened! A Garden Peach tomato sprouted in the two hours since I was out last! (Taken with instagram)
